There are many administrators that manage their networks and structured cabling infrastructure asking, “Why should I utilize an RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer)?" The Registered Communications Distribution Designer is an industry designation that identifies the credential holder as an expert in their field. BICSI awards the title of RCDD to engineers who have exceptional communication infrastructure design skills and experience, and who have demonstrated so by completing a rigorous course of study and passing a comprehensive examination.
One may say “I am only putting in new cabling for my network so why do I need an RCDD”? You may want to ask yourself a couple of questions. Our experience has shown that the people in charge of the network, including the cabling infrastructure, can hold many different titles. Odds are, no matter what position you hold, you have to juggle many responsibilities.
Do you really have the time to properly design your network infrastructure?
With everything you have going on, have you been able to keep up to date on the constant changes in the wiring industry to determine what is the best solution for you for the foreseeable future?
For an RCCD, the answer is yes to both.
In most cases, the wiring is probably the least expensive cost of a network implementation. However, it’s also probably the most crucial. If it’s not done right, you can have problems you didn’t even think were possible, and which you may not even encounter for a couple of years down the road. There are many factors and standards that go into designing a cabling infrastructure which an RCDD will account for in their design.
