The Vision Technologies team had a strong presence at the recent 2025 BICSI Winter Conference. Held at the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center from February 3rd-6th, this conference offered a glimpse into the future of telecommunications.
Scott Wells, Wireless Solutions Architect at Vision Technologies, is a long-time BICSI member and Chairman of the BICSI Wireless Sub-Committee for the past decade. Today, he brings his insights back to recap and share the key conference takeaways and what they mean for you:
Attending BICSI
For many years I have seen firsthand how these events shape our industry. This year was no exception.
(P.S. Yes, the Florida sunshine was a welcome bonus!)
Big News: TDMM Version 15 is Here!
BICSI officially launched Version 15 of the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). This isn't just another update; it's the foundational document for RCDD certification and a crucial resource for anyone working in telecom design and installation. Staying current with the TDMM is essential for success in this field.
Wireless Standards: The Future is Fast and Connected
My Wireless Sub-Committee is hard at work refining the ANSI/BICSI-006, Standards for Distributed Antenna Systems. We're making great progress and anticipate publishing the updated version this summer. This standard is critical for ensuring reliable wireless connectivity in today's demanding environments. We're also preparing to refresh the ANSI/BICSI-008 Wireless Standards Document, so stay tuned for more on that!
Cabling Challenge Champions Innovation
The annual BICSI Cabling Challenge showcased the incredible talent and skill within the cabling profession. A huge congratulations to Doug Sherwood from CBRE for taking home the $5,000 prize! While Vision has a strong history in this competition, we're already looking forward to the next challenge and encouraging our team to participate.
Beyond Cabling: A Holistic View of Telecom
The conference exhibition hall demonstrated the ever-evolving nature of our industry. It wasn't just about structured cabling anymore. Exhibitors showcased everything from cutting-edge label makers and fault-managed power systems to advanced portable camera setups, highlighting the diverse range of solutions shaping the future of telecom.
We're also incredibly proud to announce that Bill Foy, a Vision alumnus, has been elected President-Elect for BICSI! He'll soon be leading the organization as President. Congratulations, Bill, on this well-deserved achievement!
